Is your business working for YOU, or are you working for your business?
Early this year I made the decision that no matter what, I will make my business work FOR me, rather than the other way round.
You know why?
Because whatever I was doing before making that decision, wasn’t working for me. I used to be a slave to my business. I used to work long hours and was ALWAYS busy. And you know what? I was proud of that!!!
And then, I fell ill. Very ill. I was wiped out for the entire month of February.
A huge wake up call.
That’s when the decision came in. I could no longer accept being a Slave Girl. And I decided to shift my mindset and become the Business Queen.
What the heck is the “Business Queen?“
When I first heard about the “Queen mentality” and the difference between the Queen mentality and a “Slave Girl mentality”, I cringed. (Possibly because I behaved like anything but a queen). But let me tell you – the more I looked into this powerful metaphor about the two ways of thinking we women adopt, more light bulbs came on.
So let’s just briefly re-cap the difference: The Queen is the woman who takes excellent care of herself, her desires and dreams. She values herself. She embodies a powerful blend of both masculine and feminine energies. She doesn’t value one above the other however she uses both of these energies at the appropriate times in her life. The Queen is never “crazy busy”. She doesn’t constantly “have so much to do.”
She asks for support and she gets it. Can you imagine a Queen doing everything herself? Of course not. The Queen simply delegates. The Queen says yes when she means yes and she says no when she means no.
She doesn’t feel guilty about putting herself first. She embraces the fact that she’s the first lady in her life and business. She does not ask for permission. She thinks abundantly and she lives abundantly. She gives a lot. And she’s open to receive.
The Slave Girl on the other hand, is a woman who does everything herself. Small tasks, big tasks, all day every day.
She constantly multitasks. She is doing many things that drain her. She thinks poor. She doesn’t give orders. She obeys orders. She follows the rules. Never creates them. She’s a DIY girl. She wants to do everything herself. She is very nurturing – and nurtures everyone – except for herself. She’s a hard worker – and she’s proud of it. She runs her life and business purely on masculine energy – she works, works, works and hardly rests.
Now, the question for you is: how do you run your life and business? Do you think and act as a Queen, or as a Slave Girl?
The chances are that you can recognize yourself in both of these archetypes to a certain extent.
For me, it’s certainly a work in progress. While I don’t always get it right, I aim to get rid of the Slave Girl mentality all together and become the Business Queen in its fullness.
Since making that decision in February, I have made life style changes that serve both me, my family, people around me and my clients.
I value myself more.
I work much less and enjoy life much more. And contrary to my initial fears, my business income did not suffer. Rather the opposite. It started to grow quicker than ever before. So excuse me for saying this, but I believe that putting yourself first is not an act of selfishness. It’s a necessity.
After all, every single person around you will benefit.
Every single one. Do you agree?
To your advantage,
